Meet Griff Myers from The Dubois Center.

How long have you worked at The Dubois Center?

Just over 4 years as of last month.

Describe your role at The Dubois Center.

I make sure that clients and classrooms both get the AV support they need for their events and classes. This may be a lengthier process, like going on walkthroughs with clients and then communicating over email, or it may be simply replying to a help call from a professor and fixing any issues they may be having with our podium system. And of course, I get amazing support from the main campus Classroom Support Team, as well as the staff at The Dubois Center.

What’s your career background?

I went to school for audio engineering, and had a few odd jobs doing audio work all over my college town (Boone) until COVID hit. After some time, I was able to get an internship at a church to finish my degree. That really set me up for a more complete AV role like the one I have at The Dubois Center.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

It feels good when clients have had their events happen in the way they imagined, and they see it as a success. Having them leave the venue happy at the end of their time at The Dubois Center is the best reward.

Tell us your favorite memory from working at The Dubois Center.

During the CMS districtwide spelling bee (last year in January), Katie, Anna, Lily and Ben (Benjamin Green, the previous AV Event Support Technician) were all crowded in the AV booth with me and we all watched the spelling bee together for some reason. It was a bit more of a laid back event, so we were able to watch together as the kids did their best to spell. Something about that morning was a lot of fun! I think it’s because the event techs usually do events on their own, without a peanut gallery to watch them.

What couldn’t you do without on the job?

My water bottle. If you work on the 4th floor, you may see me venture from my room across the hallway to the communal water cooler. The water is cold all day, which is especially nice on our busier days when I am running around the second and third floors working an event.

Tell us something surprising that people might not know about you.

For most of my life, I saw beef as the greatest type of meat. In the last several years, I have come around to accepting chicken as the best. I just think it has the greatest amount of variability.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

My wife and I love to watch movies, go to concerts, and travel when we can! We are hoping to make a few big trips this year.

What/who inspires you?

My parents. There really isn’t anything complicated about it. They have just taught me a lot throughout my life and are there when I need them.
