Meet Anna Wilcox, an events manager at The Dubois Center.

Describe your role at The Dubois Center.

As Events Manager at The Dubois Center, we guide each event from the first inquiry to the end of event day. We handle bookings, logistics, and on-site coordination, making sure you’re informed about all policies and possibilities. Our goal is to ensure you have a successful event.

What’s your career background?

I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2021 with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. After that, I joined the Development Office at the Durham County Animal Shelter as the Events and Communications Manager.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing a client have a successful event is incredibly rewarding. There’s no doubt that putting on an event comes with stress, no matter how big or small, so it’s gratifying when the client and their guests leave happy.

Tell us your favorite memory from working at The Dubois Center.

In January, we hosted the CMS district-wide spelling bee. Helping the client bring her vision to life and watching all the kids compete was truly rewarding. Some of our staff even sat in the AV booth to watch the bee. The client and guests were thrilled and so appreciative, which made the experience even better!

What couldn’t you do without on the job?

My counterpart, Katie! We like to say we can finish each other’s sentences, but it’s her support in the role we started together that really keeps me going. Oh—and a Diet Coke and a handful of Cheez-Its help, too.

Tell us something surprising that people might not know about you.

I’m really into true crime!

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I really enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching reality TV, and getting crafty. I’ve only been in Charlotte for less than a year, but I love exploring new restaurants and coffee shops.

What/who inspires you?

My sister, Lyndsay. Her work ethic and care for others is admirable. She always reminds me to be kind, think of others, and do your very best. I wouldn’t be who I am without her.
