Meet Courtney Hunt. Courtney began working at The Dubois Center in May of 2018, immediately after graduating from UNC Charlotte.

Describe your role at The Dubois Center.

As the Events & Venue Manager I am responsible for all space booking at The Dubois Center, including but not limited to large conferences, small meetings and all academic and continuing education classes. I assist clients to ensure our venue is the best space for their events, and help make their event goals a success. I work with our catering, building services, facilities management, operations, AV and security teams to ensure successful event preparation and performance.

What’s your career background?

Since graduating from UNC Charlotte with a marketing analytics degree from the Belk College of Business, I have worked at The Dubois Center in various event and operations roles. I did obtain my Masters in Business Administration from UNC Wilmington in 2021.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Helping clients bring their event dreams to fruition is one of the things I like most about my job. It is extremely rewarding when all the hard work that goes into planning an event with a client pays off and the event is such a success. The space is gorgeous when we have events, filled with food, decor, lights and a view of the Charlotte Skyline. It never gets old.

Tell us your favorite memory from working at The Dubois Center.

My job allows me to pursue my passions outside of event & venue management, giving me the opportunity to include my passion for philanthropic work into my everyday roles. I have organized several volunteer events for the building to participate in, including my favorite, a shoe-sorting event for Samaritans Feet. We set up in the garden, the weather was amazing, and we had music playing while coworkers and friends spent time together sorting shoes and volunteering for an amazing cause.

What couldn’t you do without on the job?

Definitely Diet Pepsi (Caffeine)

Tell us something surprising that people might not know about you.

I have played the piano for over 15 years! I don’t have the opportunity to play as much as I used to, but I took lessons and performed pieces for the majority of my childhood.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

In addition to hanging out with my husband and son, I enjoy reading, baking and being outdoors. I am trying to complete 1,000 hours outside in one year!

What/who inspires you?

My family, most specifically my son, inspires me the most. Everything that I do is for him and his future. I want to show my son that hard work and dedication pay off in the most rewarding ways. I want him to see the examples that his father and I set, the ambition we have and that hopefully, he will have, too. I want to be a good role model for him and show him parents can be both successful in the workplace and at home.
